Grass head doll — Twin-Tail edition. A sawdust-and-peat body, two wobbling googly eyes and a pink butterfly pin. The seeds are already sown into the head, so the only thing standing between it and a full head of green hair is a bowl of water.

What you get

• One doll per piece ordered — about 4 in / 10 cm tall, filled and pre-sown. Order 3 and you get three separate dolls to grow, gift or share.
• Hair tie and butterfly pin included, which is the whole point of this one: tie the grass into pigtails or leave it loose and spiky.
• Drip saucer so the base stays damp without the head sitting in water.

How to grow it

• Soak first. Submerge the whole head in water for 8–12 hours. Skip this and the seeds stay asleep.
• Then keep it damp. Stand it in the saucer with a shallow splash, or mist morning and evening. Never let the head dry out completely.
• Light. A bright windowsill. Harsh afternoon sun dries the little body out faster than the seeds can drink.
• Style it. At 2–3 in of growth, tie the ponytails, braid it, or trim with scissors — cut grass grows straight back.
