Blue Border Desert Rose Bulbs
$16.44 – $49.32Price range: $16.44 through $49.32
Adenium obesum for warm-climate beds: saturated blue doubles that mass-plant into a real border. For zone 10-12 gardens and big summer pots.
Adenium obesum — Blue Border. Most adeniums are sold as solo pots; this one is for gardeners with ground to fill. In zones 10–12 the caudexes go straight into a bed or border and build into the mass-planted drift you see in the photo — a low, sculptural hedge of saturated blue doubles that blooms in waves through the warm months. Outside the tropics, the same bulbs make an excellent oversized summer planter that comes indoors before the first cold night.
What you get
- Dormant bare-root caudexes sized for bed or border planting, with visible eyes and full roots.
- Flowers the first warm season once nights stay above 60°F / 15°C.
- One plant per bulb ordered — a border of five reads very differently from one pot.
How to start it
- Bed: raised, fast-draining soil in full sun; never plant where water pools after rain.
- Water: none for the first week after planting, then deep and infrequent — desert rhythm.
- Light: full sun all day. Blue tones hold best with at least 6 hours.
- Cold: USDA 10–12 in the ground; everywhere else grow in pots and lift above 50°F / 10°C.
Cool blues are the most light-dependent colours we grow: full sun holds the blue, shade pushes toward slate-grey. Ships dormant and bare-root, wrapped in dry sphagnum. 5–7 working days to dispatch, 8–25 working days in transit.
