Windowsill Starter Desert Rose Bulbs
$16.44 – $49.32Price range: $16.44 through $49.32
The easy first adenium: a vigorous pink-double caudex that forgives missed waterings and flowers in its first warm season on a windowsill.
Adenium obesum — Windowsill Starter. Every collection needs a confident first plant, and this is ours: a vigorous pink-double caudex that shrugs off a forgotten watering and still puts up umbrella-like heads of rose-form bloom. It is the variety we hand to first-time growers because it communicates — the caudex softens slightly when it is thirsty and firms up after a drink, so you learn its rhythm fast. The listing photo shows a mature mother plant with young seedlings; you receive dormant bare-root caudexes to start that journey yourself.
What you get
- Dormant bare-root caudex with visible eyes and a full root system — not a seed.
- Beginner-friendly vigour — the most forgiving variety in the range.
- One plant per bulb ordered — order 3 and start a little collection in different pots.
How to start it
- Pot: any free-draining container with a hole — 50% cactus soil, 30% pumice, 20% coarse sand.
- Water: none for the first 7 days, then soak and dry fully. When unsure, wait two more days.
- Light: the brightest window you have; 6+ hours of sun for best flowering.
- Cold: USDA 10–12 outdoors; elsewhere keep above 50°F / 10°C.
First blooms may be simpler than the mature flowers pictured — shape and colour build as the plant settles. Ships dormant and bare-root, wrapped in dry sphagnum. 5–7 working days to dispatch, 8–25 working days in transit.
