Indigo Throne Desert Rose Bulbs
$16.44 – $49.32Price range: $16.44 through $49.32
Adenium obesum with deep indigo-violet doubles on a sculptural bonsai caudex. Exposed surface roots give it an instant ancient-tree look.
Adenium obesum — Indigo Throne. This is the one you buy for the trunk. The caudex rises from a skirt of exposed surface roots into a deliberate lean, the kind of silhouette bonsai growers spend years training — and it arrives that way. The flowers are a deep indigo-violet double, dark enough to read almost navy in the evening and lifting toward purple in full sun. On a shelf against a pale wall, the whole plant works like a sculpture that happens to bloom.
What you get
- Dormant bare-root caudex with exposed-root character, visible eyes and intact roots.
- Flowers the first season once nights stay above 60°F / 15°C.
- One plant per bulb ordered — each caudex is an individual, no two leans alike.
How to start it
- Pot: a shallow bonsai dish with a drainage hole sits the surface roots on display. 50% cactus soil, 30% pumice, 20% coarse sand.
- Water: dry for the first 7 days, then soak-and-dry cycles. Never leave water standing in the saucer.
- Light: 6+ hours of direct sun; rotate the pot monthly to keep the lean balanced.
- Cold: USDA 10–12 outdoors; indoors above 50°F / 10°C with winter watering cut to almost nothing.
Dark violets photograph darkest in shade; a sunny position pulls the colour back toward true violet. Ships dormant and bare-root, wrapped in dry sphagnum. 5–7 working days to dispatch, 8–25 working days in transit.
