Cobalt Emperor Desert Rose Bulbs
$16.44 – $49.32Price range: $16.44 through $49.32
Adenium obesum with large cobalt-blue ruffled doubles and a wide, weighty caudex. The exhibition-scale plant of the blue group.
Adenium obesum — Cobalt Emperor. Everything about this one is scaled up: blooms the size of a camellia, petals heavily ruffled and a deep cobalt that stays saturated even in bright light, over a wide trunk that puts on visible girth every season. This is the plant to buy when you want one specimen that carries a whole room — and it is the one we enter in shows. Give it the biggest pot on the shelf and it will repay you within two years.
What you get
- Dormant bare-root caudex with a naturally wide base, visible eyes and a full root system.
- Flowers the first season once nights stay above 60°F / 15°C.
- One plant per bulb ordered — multi-packs let you build a matched pair or trio.
How to start it
- Pot: generous and wide with a drainage hole. 50% cactus soil, 30% pumice, 20% coarse sand.
- Water: dry for the first 7 days, then deep soaks with a full dry-down between.
- Light: maximum sun you can give; 6+ hours keeps the cobalt deep.
- Cold: USDA 10–12 outdoors; elsewhere above 50°F / 10°C.
Cobalt is the most stable blue we grow, but shade still pulls it toward navy — more sun, more blue. Ships dormant and bare-root, wrapped in dry sphagnum. 5–7 working days to dispatch, 8–25 working days in transit.
