Midnight Gold Amaryllis Bulbs — Double Plum-Black Blooms, Gold-Rimmed Petals

Price range: $30.99 through $95.99

Almost black in the pot, plum where the light catches the ruffles, and every petal outlined in gold. Eight to ten layers of petals make it the heaviest double we sell.

SKU: AMA-MDG Categories: ,

This one reads as black until you stand close. Then the light finds the plum in it, layer under layer, and the gold rim turns the whole flower into an outline drawing of itself. It is not a showy amaryllis and it is not a subtle one either — it just makes everything else on the windowsill look ordinary.

What you get

  • One bulb per count ordered, 26/28 cm circumference — large enough to throw two stems.
  • A true double: eight to ten petal layers, no green throat, no visible stamen until the flower is nearly spent.
  • Two stems, four to six blooms each, opening in sequence so a single bulb flowers for five or six weeks.
  • Boxed in kraft card with a planting card, not loose in a mailer.

Planting

  • Pot: a 6–7 in pot per bulb, two-thirds soil, one-third bulb above the rim — amaryllis sulk when they are buried.
  • Water: soak once at planting, then keep the mix just damp. Wet soil around the bulb is the usual reason a big bulb never opens.
  • Light: Bright but not midday sun, which bleaches the rim — a south or west window, or a grow light for 12 hours a day.
  • Root in the dark first: 2–3 weeks in a cool, darkish room gets roots down before the stem runs up.
  • Stake it early. A double this heavy leans, and it will not straighten again once the flowers open.
  • Keep it below 70°F/21°C. Heat pushes the stem too fast and the gold thins out at the tips.

After the flowers

  • Cut the stem at 2 in once it browns, but leave the leaves — they are the bulb’s only chance of flowering again.
  • Feed monthly through summer, then dry off in September and let the leaves die back on their own.

Bulbs ship dormant and firm, 26/28 cm around, boxed to protect the nose. Orders leave in 5–7 working days; 8–25 working days in transit. Petal color shifts a little with light and temperature — the cooler the room, the deeper the bloom.
