Crimson & Violet Desert Rose Bulbs
$16.44 – $49.32Price range: $16.44 through $49.32
Adenium obesum blooming scarlet and violet side by side on one gnarled caudex — a natural two-tone for the bonsai shelf.
Adenium obesum — Crimson & Violet. Two colours, one trunk: scarlet rose-form doubles on one branch and violet on the next, over a gnarled, twisting caudex that already carries bonsai character. The two tones take turns — first a flush of scarlet, then violet catches up — so the plant never looks the same two weeks running. For anyone who collects desert roses, this is the one that makes people stop and ask what it is.
What you get
- Dormant bare-root caudex with a naturally gnarled trunk, visible eyes and full roots.
- Two colours from one plant once it settles and flowers, typically the first warm season.
- One plant per bulb ordered — multi-packs are separate caudexes.
How to start it
- Pot: a shallow bonsai dish with a drainage hole shows the trunk. 50% cactus soil, 30% pumice, 20% coarse sand.
- Water: dry for the first 7 days, then soak-and-dry cycles.
- Light: 6+ hours of direct sun; rotate monthly for even colour on both sides.
- Cold: USDA 10–12 outdoors; indoors above 50°F / 10°C.
In the first flush one colour may lead — by the second cycle both tones usually show. Ships dormant and bare-root, wrapped in dry sphagnum. 5–7 working days to dispatch, 8–25 working days in transit.
