Why gardeners plant Cobalt Drift

Cobalt Drift carries some of the deepest blue colour we grow. The leaves are wide and rounded with heavy substance, and a violet sheen sits on top of the blue so the clump changes tone from morning to evening.

Because the leaves are thick, they resist scorch and hold up late into autumn. Give it a spot with morning light and afternoon shade for the strongest colour.

What actually arrives

You receive one dormant bare-root division — a root crown with 1–2 visible eyes and fleshy storage roots, packed in moist peat inside a breathable bag.

Hostas are not true bulbs. There is no papery tunic and no basal plate, so do not expect an onion-shaped bulb: what ships is the crown the grower lifts and grades. Dormancy is when a hosta travels best, and it is completely normal for the roots to look dry and leafless on arrival.

How to plant

1. Unpack on arrival and soak the roots for 30 minutes.
2. Dig a hole wide enough to spread the roots flat, about 4–6 in deep.
3. Set the crown 1 in below soil level with the eyes pointing up.
4. Backfill, firm gently, water in thoroughly.
5. Top-dress with compost. No fertiliser in the first season.
