Why gardeners buy bulbs instead of pots

The same plant, at a fraction of the price — because you are not paying to ship soil and water.

A third of the price

A potted hosta at a garden centre costs $25–$45 for one plant. Ten dormant bulbs cost about the same, and each one becomes a clump.

Travels without damage

Dormant bulbs are shipped dry on purpose. No root shock, no wilted leaves in a box, no repotting when they arrive.

Comes back every year

Hostas are herbaceous perennials. They die back at the first frost and return bigger every spring for decades — then you dig and divide.

What is in every order

Graded bulbs, not seconds

Every batch is inspected for firmness and eye count. Undersized bulbs are rejected, not quietly packed.

A printed planting card

Depth, spacing, light and watering on one card — so you are not guessing at the bed with a phone in one hand.

A real guarantee

If a bulb does not sprout within 30 days when planted as directed, we replace it or refund it. No return shipping.

Questions gardeners actually ask

My bulbs arrived looking dry. Are they dead?

No. Dormant bulbs are shipped dry by design — damp packing in transit is what rots them. They should feel firm and heavy for their size. Soak for 1–2 hours, plant 2–3 inches deep, and shoots appear in 2–4 weeks depending on soil temperature.

How many bulbs do I need?

Space them 18 inches apart for a solid bed, 24 inches for individual clumps. A 6-foot by 3-foot bed takes about 12–15 bulbs. Most people start with a 10-pack and add more the following spring.

Will they grow in my zone?

Our hostas are hardy in USDA zones 3–9, which covers most of the continental United States. If you are unsure, email us your ZIP code and we will confirm before you order.

When do you ship?

Within 1–2 business days, or up to 3 during the March–May and September–November planting peaks. Tracking is emailed as soon as the parcel leaves us.

What if they do not come up?

Email support@silvarara.com with your order number and a photo within 30 days of delivery. We replace the bulbs or refund you — your choice.
